The Altai Harp: A Magic Instrument

The Altai Harp was discovered in 2008 in a tomb in a cave high in the Altai Mountains, almost completely intact, along with inscriptions, other artifacts, and a skeleton. Research showed that the instrument is over 1500 years old. It was reconstructed and revived by Ganpurev, a renowned Mongolian musician, composer, and researcher. He developed a simple learning method that even people with no musical experience can play the first melodies within an hour: A simplistic “sheet music” that consists of the numbers 1 to 6 and corresponds to a string on the instrument, written in a table. The instrument, with only six strings, shines with its simplicity and produces a soft, clean sound that is perfect for singing and dancing.

A trip through Mongolia

For years, Rowan and Saran dreamed of organizing a trip through Mongolia, where participants not only experience the culture but also become part of the music that forms the country's soul. In cooperation with Ganpurev, this dream will become a reality. In 2026, we invite you on an unforgettable journey that combines music, spirituality and the magic of the Altai Harp with Mongolia's impressive nature.

The trip consists of two parts:

Trip part 1 | Travel through Mongolia with Rowan and Saran

The first part of the trip takes you to the soul of Mongolia. You'll explore the enchanting landscapes of Central Mongolia, learn about the rich traditions of Mongolian throat singing and music, and participate in inspiring workshops. Accompanied by renowned Mongolian artists and shamans from Saran's family, you'll discover the deep connection between the music, the land, and the spiritual practices that the Mongols cherish.

Trip Part 2 | The Chure Yaylaga Tour: Discover the Magic of the Altai Harp

The second part of the trip is a spiritual and musical journey through the Mongolian steppes, led by Ganpurev and his band members. For six days, you'll walk 10-15 kilometers a day through nature, learning to play the Altai Harp and discovering the traditional “Toiron Bujig” dance. Every day strengthens the connection between music, traditions, shamanic rituals, nature and spiritual energy. At the end of the day, you'll stay in Mongolian glamping tents, where the magical atmosphere of the trip comes to life.

On the sixth day, you will reach an enchanting cave, where, together with Ganpurev and the Altai Harp ensemble, we will perform the melodies in a big party and final concert. The trip ends with a festive celebration, where music, food, drink and dance come together to make the trip an unforgettable experience. This journey takes you deep into the magic of the Altai Harp, the music, nature, and spiritual energy of the Mongolian steppes.

Join the Chure Club

Ganpurev founded the Chure Club, a community of musicians who learn to play the Altai Harp and keep the tradition alive. Rowan will launch the first Chure Club branch in Europe, and everyone participating in this trip will officially become a member of the club. In the months before the trip, we will organize several joint sessions to learn the basics of the Altai Harp together, so that you can be well prepared for adventure.
