Experience. Discover. Taste.

Altai is a place where Mongolian culture, music, and hospitality come together in the heart of Westerwolde (Netherlands). We, Rowan and Saran, bring a piece of Mongolia to the Netherlands: a unique mix of staying overnight, tasting, learning, and experiencing. Our mission is to bring people closer together through music, tradition, and nature, and our vision is to create an open space where culture and connection take center stage.
Throat Singing: Workshops. Retreats. Concerts.

Dive into the world of Mongolian throat singing

At Altai we open the doors to the rich traditions of Mongolian music and throat singing. During our workshops you’ll discover unique vocal techniques and traditional instruments. In a warm and personal setting we guide both beginners and advanced participants, so that everyone can experience the magic of Mongolian music.

Our multi-day retreats offer even more space to fully immerse yourself in music, culture, and nature. Everything comes together in an inspiring environment where learning, creativity, and relaxation are central. In addition, we organize concerts and performances in the Netherlands, across Europe, and beyond – sometimes intimate and personal, sometimes grand and moving.

Guesthouse and Yurt B&B

Stay in our guesthouse and/or our yurt.

In our guesthouse and in our traditional Mongolian yurt, you can enjoy a unique overnight stay in the heart of Westerwolde – the perfect base to explore the surroundings in a charming rural setting. A special combination of comfort and culture.

Whether you choose the yurt or the guesthouse with modern amenities (or both!), you are always assured of a warm welcome and a memorable experience. Here you can relax, unwind, and at the same time experience a piece of Mongolia in the Netherlands.

Delicious food & special moments

Experience the Mongolian kitchen

Saran lovingly prepares authentic dishes, rich in flavor and tradition, but with a surprising plant-based twist. Whether it’s a cooking workshop, a dinner during your stay, or snacks at a concert, food at Altai is always a moment of connection and togetherness.

Our cooking workshops give you the chance to try your hand at traditional recipes yourself, while at a dinner or event you can simply relax and enjoy. Music, culture, and hospitality come together at the table – an experience you’ll remember for a long time.

Our Mission & Vision

We are Rowan and Saran, the driving force behind Altai. Together we share a passion for Mongolian music, culture, and hospitality. Saran grew up in a yurt on the Mongolian countryside and has lived in the Netherlands for many years. Rowan has been dedicated to traditional Mongolian music and throat singing for over twenty years. Our worlds came together through music – and from that encounter, Altai was born.

With Altai we aim to build a bridge between Mongolia and the rest of the world. We bring the richness of Mongolian traditions – music, stories, food, and hospitality. Our mission is to preserve, share, and let people experience this unique culture. Our vision is to create a place where people come together, feel inspired, and build connections: discovering new things, meeting new people, being close to nature, and experiencing an ancient culture that is still very much alive today.
