Loving house and pet sitter wanted

For 10 days, from 20 February to 3 March, we are looking for someone with a true heart for animals to stay in our home and on our property, and above all to give our dog Raven companionship and a sense of calm—so that we can be with our family in Mongolia with peace of mind.

Dear reader,

From 20 February to 3 March, we will be traveling to Mongolia as a family for 10 days to visit family. This is a very special trip for us: we haven’t been in Mongolia together as a family for nine years. At the same time, we find it a bit nerve-racking to leave our home and animals behind. That’s why we are looking for an engaged, reliable, and loving house and pet sitter.

In short

  • When: 20 February to 3 March 2026
  • Where: Wedde, East Groningen (rural location)
  • Animals: Saarloos wolfdog, kune kune pig, and chickens
  • Accommodation: The entire house will be available
  • Children welcome: Yes
  • Pets welcome: No – we don’t feel comfortable with this during this period
  • Nearest train station: Winschoten or Veendam
  • Bus: No. The nearest bus stop is about a 40-minute walk away
  • Parking: Plenty of parking space on our own property

About our place

We live in a rural area in Westerwolde (Groningen), in a beautiful and peaceful location. On our property we run a small-scale Mongolian bed & breakfast: Altai Yurt. Feel free to take a look at our website to get to know us and our place better.

There are several animals living on the property, including chickens and a pig, all of which need daily care. However, the biggest responsibility—and also the most important one—is our dog, Raven.

What matters most to us

That our animals, and especially Raven, feel safe, seen, and loved while we are away.
That’s why we are not looking for a “task-based sitter,” but for someone who is present with attention and heart for both our home and our animals.

Responsibilities

  • Daily care, attention, and companionship for our dog Raven
  • Care for the other animals on the property (feeding, checking on them, simple routines)
  • Keeping the house lived in and generally well cared for during the stay
  • Noticing if something is off and informing us if necessary

You don’t need to be a farm professional. What we are looking for is someone who treats animals and our home with care, calmness, and love.

Special focus: our dog Raven

Raven is a Saarloos wolfdog and truly a family dog. He is social, gentle, and loves people.
Our B&B guests almost always fall in love with him right away—and he with them.

At the same time, Raven is not a distant guard dog that just lives on the property. He needs:

  • Daily attention and closeness
  • Calmness, clarity, and a familiar routine
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with him

He is used to having people around and truly thrives on connection. That’s why we’re not looking for a sitter who just ticks off tasks, but someone who sees Raven as a companion during that period.

Going for walks together, sitting together for a moment, simply being together—that’s what makes the difference for him.

👉 I’ve also written a blog about Raven, where you can get to know him better.

Why this is so important to us

If Raven feels good, we can be with our family in Mongolia with peace of mind. That is ultimately what this call is about. Do you have a warm heart for animals, enjoy being in a quiet rural environment, and feel that it would be special to take care of Raven and our place?

If so, we would very much love to hear from you.
