Chadraabalyn Baatarsuren (1978) is a versatile Mongolian musician, master throat singer, and traditional instrument maker from Khovd province in Western Mongolia — the cradle of throat singing.
From the age of seven, he devoted himself to the art of khöömii (throat singing). He studied music and vocal education in Ulaanbaatar and further specialized as a professional musician and instrumentalist.
Baatarsuren is proficient in multiple styles of Mongolian throat singing and has performed at national and international festivals. He is highly regarded for his deep knowledge of the tradition and, as a teacher, for his ability to pass it on authentically.
In addition to performing, he works as an instrument maker. He builds traditional Western Mongolian instruments such as the ikel khuur, tovshuur, tsuur, morin khuur, and traditional drums — a rare combination of musical mastery and craftsmanship.

Baatarsuren’s tour to Europe marks a special cultural exchange between Mongolia and the Netherlands. In collaboration with Altai Yurt, he will present not only concerts but also in-depth educational programs where music, craft, and culture come together.
This tour offers a rare opportunity to experience Mongolian music not only by listening, but also actively — from voice to instrument, from tradition to practice.
Intimate and powerful performances where throat singing, overtones, and traditional instruments come together. Baatarsuren immerses the audience in the sound world of the Mongolian steppe, with ancient melodies, improvisation, and a direct connection to the tradition.
Depending on the setting, he performs solo, as a duo with Rowan Hartsuiker (specializing in throat singing, Altai harp, tovshuur, and morin khuur), or as a trio with Mongolian guest musicians, including players of morin khuur and Mongolian harp. This variety makes each concert unique.
An intensive introduction to the techniques of throat singing and overtone chanting. Participants learn to work with breathing, resonance, and sound production under the direct guidance of a master from the tradition.
A unique hands-on experience in which participants learn to craft a traditional Mongolian string instrument. Guided by Baatarsuren, participants go through the full process — from raw materials to a playable instrument.
This collaboration is organized by Altai Yurt (Netherlands), founded by Rowan Hartsuiker and Saran Myagmarsuren. Altai focuses on sharing Mongolian music and culture through concerts, workshops, and other events. The combination of performances and education is at the heart of their vision: not just to listen, but to understand, experience, and create.
